Montreux Jazz
33rd Montreux Jazz Festival

JULY 10

Last night Milton Nascimento played the Stravinski Auditorium. For many Brazillian music fans, there are few artists that can satisfy the soul better than Nascimento. The Grammy award-winning artist, with heart-felt political and emotional lyrics driven by sounds derived from his native land, has so much talent to entertain and thrill audiences. From the FOH position, it was particularly interesting because of the many percussion inputs. There were almost 40! Altogether, it was amazing how large the band sounded, yet with only six background musicians: 2 keyboard players, 1 (unrelentlessly energetic and creative) percussionist, 1 drummer, 1 bass player, and 1 artist alternating between flute and saxophone. And of course, Nascimento on vocals.

Before the show Nascimento's mixer Jose Francisco, his fifth time at the Montreux Jazz Festival, said that "Meyer Sound is the very best in the world. I like the Festival system very much." Equally so, he "enjoyed working with Nascimento...he and the band are such nice people."
