The Mixing Workshop: Session 10, Advanced Techniques with Compressors and Gates on Linear Systems
1 hour | English

Linear sound systems accurately reproduce the mix an audio engineer creates at the mixing console. With the vast array of plug-ins available today, audio engineers have almost unlimited tools for coloring and shaping their mix. This work is done upstream of the sound system and the availability of these tools underlines the importance that sound systems accurately reproduce the input given. This webinar session picks up from the previous Mixing Workshop, Session 9 on the topic of compressors and gates, going deeper in-depth to look at advanced concepts and techniques. Advanced applications in the use of compressors and gates will be discussed and demonstrated including Parallel Compression, Multi-band Compression, and Upward Expansion and how effective use of these techniques relies on the linearity of the sound system on which the mix is reproduced.
