Meyer Showcases Self-Powered UltraSeries at USITT
The UPA-P Offers Compact Power and Effortless Installation
Meyer Sound will introduce the new Self-Powered UltraSeries to the theatrical market at USITT, March 1998. Based on the widespread success of Meyer's patented trapezoidal UPA loudspeakers, the new series brings high-powered speakers to theatrical installations and touring in a compact, sturdy, and easy-to-use package. The first product releases from the Self-Powered UltraSeries are the UPA-1P and UPA-2P full-range loudspeakers, the USW-1P subwoofer, and the UM-1P stage monitor.
"The UPA-P loudspeakers are a complete solution to age-old system problems," commented Jim Van Bergen, theatrical sound designer for Blue Man Group. "Each speaker can be easily used in a variety of applications."
These powerful, biamplified speakers are characterized by their versatility, reliability, and smooth sonic performance. Self-Powered UltraSeries users include Disney on Ice, Norway's Troendelag Theater, the Rosza Centre at CanadaÕs University of Calgary, and the Swan Theater, Stratford-on-Avon, in the United Kingdom.
Self-Powered Speakers: An All-In-One Solution
The Self-Powered UltraSeries utilizes advanced, lightweight amplifier technology, while allowing no compromises on overall performance. Despite the inclusion of the amplifier and control electronics, the UPA-1P and UPA-2P are conveniently compact and lightweight-- the speakers are the exact same size as, and only 10 lbs. heavier than, the original non-powered versions.
Innovative Technology for the 21st Century
Each UltraSeries model is the product of extensive research, involving both innovative engineering and thorough consideration of real-world professional demands. Particularly beneficial is a new, advanced horn design that features Constant-Q technology for smoother coverage and minimal side lobing. Additionally, phase-corrected electronics produce flat acoustical phase and amplitude responses, resulting in exceptional system impulse response and precise imaging.
Technical Specifications of the UPA-1P and UPA-2P Speakers
The UPA-1P and UPA-2P speakers each have a 12-inch low frequency cone driver, and a 3-inch diaphragm high frequency compression driver. At -6 dB points, the UPA-1P has a coverage pattern of 100 degrees H x 40 degrees V; the UPA-2P, 45 degrees H x 45 degrees V. They both offer a frequency response of 60 Hz - 18 kHz, and a maximum SPL of 133 dB. Each unit provides two channels of biamplification and an electronic crossover/processor card within the electronics of the speaker. Their physical dimensions are 14.5-inch W x 22.4-inch H x 14.5-inch D, at a weight of 77 lbs. (35 kg).
All powered UltraSeries speakers employ limiting technology that accurately predicts power dissipation within the speaker. They also include Intelligent AC, a power supply that protects the amplifier and drivers by auto-selecting the voltage, minimizing in-rush current, filtering EMI, and performing surge protection.
