University of Illinois Installs Powerful New MSL-10 SystemMeyer Sound dealer C.V. Lloyde Music Center, of Champaign, Illinois, has recently completed an MSL-10 installation at the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana Memorial Stadium. This is the sixth successful permanent stadium installation for the Meyer MSL-10 loudspeaker system. "With Meyer Sound , there is no competition in terms of quality," says C.V. Lloyde V.P. and Co-Project Foreman Stephen Morris, who adds, "so, when we were invited in August 1994 to submit a design bid for the Memorial Stadium sound system, Meyer was the first choice in sound reinforcement products." The installation required a permanent compact scoreboard-mounted system covering up to a distance of 800 feet in an open stadium with brutal weather conditions ranging from hot and humid Augusts to freezing Decembers. The MSL-10s had proven themselves over the previous football season when six units were rented from Sounds Good Audio of Michigan, before the new scoreboard was completed. However, when it came time for permanent installation, the University opened the job up to competitive bidding. The final design was created jointly by C.V. Lloyde and Morris with factory support from Meyer Sound Technical Support Director Bob McCarthy. The MSL-10 was again chosen for its size, intelligibility, power, coverage pattern, and its weather resistance. The MSL-10 has a standard thermostatically-controlled environmental cooling and heating system that stabilizes the internal temperature of each cabinet. The epoxy-impregnated enclosure and the water-resistant treatment of each driver component provide the required durability for extreme outdoor conditions. The system design is simplicity itself: a four unit array with two M-10 Controllers and six Crown MA5000VZM amplifiers. This proved advantageous over the complex custom component designs bid by the competition, in both unit cost and installation, allowing C.V. Lloyde's bid to come in lowest. June, 1996 |
