News Briefs Australia New Zealand 1997
Rental company ODC Productions of Brisbane, Australia used their MSL-4 rig in a number of reinforcement projects this summer: • ODC's managing director Olaf de Ceuster reported that just 8 MSL-4s and 4 PSW-2s provided complete coverage for the over 90,000 people attending Brisbane's second Down By the River Festival. "Amazing! These small PA's handled crowds as large as 6000 on each of the two stages without problems," reported de Ceuster. "We did not anticipate this many people." • American Express threw a birthday party for their Australian offices at the Capricorn Resort in Yeppoon. The celebration lasted from May 31 through June 2 and featured a performance by Australia's own James Morrison Jazz Band. De Ceuster said, "Comments from the 250 invited CEOs on the sound quality ranged from 'good' to 'best I've heard.' That's quite an achievement considering these high-profile guests usually don't care about such things." ODC's system for the party consisted of 2 MSL-4s and 2 PSW-2s per side with 8 UPA-1s used as stage monitors. • ODC's MSL-4 rig went on tour with the Black Sorrows' during their August run through several clubs in southeast Queensland. MSL-4s are also being used for weekly Queensland sporting events like rugby and the Superleague. Further travels of their MSL-4 rig included an August 8 show by Leonardo's Bride at The Capitol and an August 16 children's concert at the RNA Showgrounds. "Those boxes have an amazing throw!" De Ceuster commented of his MSL-4s' performance at the children's show, "5000 kids some 100 meters away in a grandstand were dancing along with the music of the Wiggles [the featured performers] as if they were listening from the front row." Pro Line Professional Audio of Jakarta provided speakers for Planet Bali, a hot new Indonesian club which opened in early August. The club, featuring a full service restaurant with singing waiters in addition to its nightclub and karaoke facilities, is equipped with 6 MTS-4s and a CP-10. Australian dealer Richardson and Devine sold 40 of the popular and versatile MSL-4's in the past 4 months. They recently closed 2 large sales of Self-Powered systems in the Queensland area: Additionally, Richardson and Devine provided 8 MSL-4's and 4 CQ-1's for use in the Great Hall of the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Center.
