Krzystof Dabala of KOD Audio (Meyer dealer in Poland) reports that Fotis Sound supplied a Meyer sound system for the 40th Annual Jazz Jamboree, October 19 - 25, 1998. Jamboree artists included Ray Brown, Joe Lovano, Kevin Mahogany, John Scofield, Mike Stern, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Eddie Palmieri, Dr. John & Lounge Lizard. According to Dabala, the audience remarked it was the best sounding Jamboree Festival ever!

Werner Hessler of Atec Audio, Meyer's Austrian dealer, reports that Sound Art Service (SAS) is supplying an all-Meyer system for the 1998 Vienna Film Festival, a series of screenings of filmed performances by the greats of classical music. This year's festival focuses around the 90th birthday of Herbert von Karajan, the 80th birthday of Leonard Bernstein, and the 50th anniversary of the death of Franz Lehar.

Based in the Austrian capital, SAS is providing sound reinforcement for the Vienna Rathausplatz, where classical performances from around the world play on a large video screen each night of the festival (July 4 through August 30). Self-Powered equipment includes four MSL-4 loudspeakers , 2 650-P subwoofers, two CQ-1 loudspeakers , and two CQ-2 loudspeakers . Eight UPA-1C conventionally-powered loudspeakers round out the system, which was designed by Stefan Schlogl of SAS, and Professor Fritz, audio engineer for the Staatsoper opera house in Vienna.

Czech Meyer dealer Pragosound provided an all Self-Powered system for the live transmission of the Winter Olympics Hockey final between Russia and the Czech Republic. Over 50,000 Czech fans attended the outdoor broadcast, which was held in the historic Staromestske Namesti. Pragosound used 8 Self-Powered MSL-4, 2 CQ-1, and 2 CQ-2 loudspeakers for sound reinforcement, supplemented by 16 PSW-4 subwoofers and 8 PSM-2 monitors. The same system was used to welcome the victorious Czech team on their return from Nagano. Over 140, 000 people attended the festivities.

David Byrne, former frontman of influential rock group, the Talking Heads, will be appearing at Prague's Archa Divadlo (theater) this spring. The Archa Divadlo will use their new Meyer Self-Powered gear -- 4 CQ-2 loudspeakers and 4 650-P subwoofers -- as well as their existing system, which consists of 4 MSL-2A loudspeakers and 2 650-R2 subwoofers -- to power his upcoming performances.

Russia's historic capital city marked its 850th anniversary in September 1997 with multiple public festivities, including a solo performance by Luciano Pavarotti, a long-time Meyer user. Equipment for the tenor great's Red Square concert was installed by U.K. rental company SoundHire. The rig integrated Self-Powered and non-Powered loudspeakers to provide sound for the crowd of 3,500 attendees gathered near the Kremlin.

SoundHire used 2 Self-Powered MSL-4 loudspeakers for the central cluster. Left and right clusters consisted of 2 USW-1 subwoofers, 2 MSL-10A loudspeakers, and 3 UPA-1C loudspeakers, respectively. The stage acoustic system featured one MSL-4 on either side, three UPA-1Cs in the center, with on-stage monitoring provided by 4 UM-1C monitors.

Representatives of I.S.P.A., Meyer's Russian dealer, attended the concert, which was televised nationwide. I.S.P.A.'s Theodore Samoilov commented that "we were amazed, both by Pavarotti's singing, and by the quality of the sound. It was a real apex of the Moscovite holiday."
