Mexico City-based Abreu Producciones has opened a new office in the city of Merida in Yucatan, Mexico. The new company is named Light and Sound Productions, and is managed by Raúl Abreu. "...one of the world's largest inventories of Meyer Sound Self-powered speakers."

The new Self-Powered UM-1P stage monitor is making a splash in Brazil, reports Marcio Pilot of Loudness Sonorizacao. The Campinas company's first shipment of UM-1Ps arrived in May and are already being used with great success on the road. Loudness supplied 12 UM-1Ps to the 10-day Festival de Musica Etnica, in Sao Paulo. "The UM-1P is practical, looks beautiful, and sounds very good," commented Pena Schmidt, the festival's stage manager.

An all-Self-Powered Meyer system was recently installed at Xcaret, a lavish ecological reserve south of Cancun, Mexico. Xcaret showcases the natural beauty and wildlife of the region and provides a look at traditional Mexican folk culture and Mayan history in a lush jungle setting.

Supplied by Servando Chagoya, owner of Audio Deseño, the weather-resistant system provides sound reinforcement for a stage connected to the rest of the park by a network of underground rivers. After snorkling through the natural currents of the waterways or resting under palapas on the beach, guests can relax and watch the mariachi and folk dance performances at the stone-walled amphitheater. The sound system for the venue consists of eight CQ-2 loudspeakers, four UPA-1P loudspeakers, and four 650-Ps subwoofers.

Discos all over Mexico have discovered that Meyer equipment excels at providing clean, undistorted sound while maintaining the high SPLs required by the Latin disco market. La Boom, a popular disco in the resort town of Cancun, Mexico, installed an all Self-Powered system to replace their previous Meyer equipment, which was damaged in a recent fire. The new system includes four MSL-4 and four CQ-1 loudspeakers. 12 PSW-2 subwoofers are flown above the dance floor and eight 650-Ps are installed below the stage. An LD-1A line driver, 4 CP-10 parametric equalizers, and 4 VX-1 equalizers round out the new system.

Two Mexico City discos have joined the growing swell of Mexican Self-Powered UltraSeries users. Meyer Sound Mexico sold 14 UPA-1P loudspeakers and three CP-10 parametric equalizers to the Purachand disco. Hysteria, another Mexico City venue, recently bought eight UPA-1P and six CQ-1 loudspeakers, four 650-P subwoofers, and 2 CP-10 parametric equalizers. Antonio Zacarias of Meyer Sound Mexico tuned La Boom and Purachand's new system using SIM Sytem II for QC and system alignment.

The Sound Beam, Meyer's unique parabolic long-throw loudspeaker, popped up in both Central and South America this year. 2 SB-1s have been permanently installed by RSTV in San Jose, Costa Rica's capital city. The loudspeakers will provide outdoor sound reinforcement for monthly political speeches. MSL-4 Self-Powered loudspeakers are being used as front fill speakers for the SB-1s. Latin pop superstar Carlos Vives will be touring Colombia with 4 Soundbeams. Columbian Meyer dealer Jorge Vazquez supplied the SB-1s, as well as 32 MSL-4s and 16 650-P Self-Powered subwoofers.

Pop vocalist Marco Antonio Solis rang in the New Year with the January purchase of an all Self-Powered Meyer touring system from Meyer Sound Mexico. Solis' audio crew stopped by the Meyer factory in mid-tour to pick up the new gear, which they will use to complete the tour. The system included products from Meyer's new Self-Powered UltraSeries: one UPA-1P loudspeaker, one USW-1P subwoofer, and seven UM-100P monitors. The rest of the system is comprised of 24 MSL-4 loudspeakers, eight PSW-2 subwoofers, 18 650-P subwoofers, four PSM-2 monitors, and one LD-1A line driver.
