Meyer Hosts Largest SIM School to Date (Spanish version)
During the week of November 2, Meyer Sound hosted the largest SIM School ever held in the world. Held at their Berkeley headquarters, the course was organized for Meyer's Latin American customers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela. Twenty four students attended the course that was taught by SIM veteran Bob McCarthy with the assistance of five Meyer employees. Significant changes were made by Meyer to accomodate the predominately Spanish-speaking participants. McCarthy's English-language lectures were translated simultaneously into Spanish by Meyer employees Pablo Espinosa, Antonio Zacarias, Horacio Arce and Scott Gledhill. The written materials, including manuals, exams, and quizzes were fully translated, as was the primary instructional guide, the Meyer Sound Design Reference handbook. SIM School participants received a VIP tour of the Meyer factory, including a 5.1 surround sound demonstration and a HDTV presentation recorded at the 1998 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Due to the large size of the class, students were divided into three groups, each with its own SIM System II machine, to ensure sufficient hands-on experience for everyone. November, 1998 |
