The United Kingdom's admired opera diva, Lesley Garrett, performs at London's Royal Albert Hall on the evening of Wednesday, December 22. The show, which covers a wide repertoire of music, from classical opera to Broadway hits, is expected to attract a sold-out audience of 4,500.

Providing the Meyer Sound system for Garrett's opening performance at the Royal Albert Hall, as well as the duration of her seasonal tour, is Sound By Design Ltd.

"Lesley's show is enhanced, rather than hugely amplified," said Phil Wright, Sound by Design Ltd.'s FOH Engineer. "The ground system consists of UPA-1P's, USW-1P subs and UPM-1P near field fills at the front and sides. The flown system will consist of MSL-2A's and UPA-1C's with UPM-1P balcony fills."

Wright added that originally he had headed a team of technicians who SIMed the Hall utilizing Meyer Sound's SIM System II.

"Because of the nature and the number of events that we handle at the Hall, we have treated the systems that we put in there like an install," said Wright. "We took a day, and set the system up, noting trim heights and gain structure, and then SIMed. The EQ & Delay settings we achieved were then stored in a BSS Omnidrive Compact, so that we can work on a recall basis in the venue whenever we put that system in.

"The decision to use Meyer," he said, "was across the board when Andy Callin founded the company. We use exclusively Meyer Sound loudspeakers in all of our work, which ranges from corporate events and themed parties to serious music applications. We find that the constant directivity, particularly in the low end, gives us significant sound quality and gain before feedback - advantages over our competitors."
