1. Czechoslovakia's newly constructed Theatre Kalich was recently host to the premiere of the musical "Hamlet" on the evening of Monday, November 1st. The much-anticipated production, which integrates a sizable Meyer Sound system, was provided by Czech. Republic's Pragosound.

The pro-audio system is comprised of CQ-2 self-powered loudspeaker systems for the Left and Right systems, a series of PSM-2's for the middle cluster, and 4 MSL-2's for upper and lower surround.

"All of the production's performers and staff are talking about the lucidity everywhere in the Theatre, as well as on the balcony," said Zdenek Otava of Pragosound.

After the premiere of the musical, the 300-seat venue is anticipating crowds of musical enthusiasts for "Hamlet" throughout the remainder of '99 and well into the new millennium.


2. On August 20-22 FOTIS Sound of Poland provided the Sopot International Song Festival with a host of Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeaker systems including: 8 MSL-4s, 4 DS-4Ps, 5 650-Ps, 4 CQ-2s, and 4 UPA-1Ps.

Performing at the three-day Festival were such illustrious artists as Lionel Richie and Whitney Houston.

Krzysztof Dabala of KOD Audio, Meyer Sound's dealer in Poland, said that this was the first time that Whitney Houston's engineers had the opportunity to work with the DS-4P's, released earlier this year. Dabala also commented that following her performance at the Festival he received a wealth of positive feedback from Whitney Houston's engineers on the precision clarity and coverage of the Meyer Sound system.

3. Atec Audio Technology GmbH of Austria recently announced that Planet Music Vienna, Austria's premier venue for live music performances, installed a new Meyer Sound Self Powered Loudspeaker System. The installation, which will take place in June, will feature a compilation of 6 - MSL-4s, 6 - DS-4Ps, 6 - 650-Ps, and 4 - UPM-1s in conjunction with 6 - UM-1Ps, 2 - UPA-1Ps, 1 - USW and 2 - CQ-1s for monitoring.

In order to branch out from their rock music beginnings, the club will also replace all of the cabling, FOH and monitor mixer, and all auxiliary and backline equipment to broaden the musical spectrum of the club.

Popular artists which have performed at the club over the past 10 years include Pearl Jam, the Cardigans, Bauhaus, the James Taylor Quartet and Run DMC.

Currently, Planet Music Vienna features both a main club area, which holds 1,000 patrons, and an attached "Live Cafe" with a smaller stage for local artists, which holds an additional 200 club-goers.

4. PragoSound announced that they will be supplying Meyer Sound equipment for Manovar in Ostrava on June 2, Zucchero on June 22 and Mike Oldfield on July 24 in Prague. Powering the performers will be a Self-Powered Loudspeaker System of 4-PSW-6s, 14-PSW-4s, 16-MSL-4s, and 6-CQ-2s.

5. In other news, PragoSound installed 10-UPA-1Ps and 2-650-Ps in The Millennium, a new theater in Prague, to be used in the popular Czech musical Rusalka.

6. Zdenek Otava, of PragoSound, also mentioned that the musical Dracula in The Theatre Istropolis in Bratislava, the capitol of the Slovak Republic, will be powered by 4-MSL-2s, 2-CQ-2s, 1-MSL-2s, 2-CQ-1 and 4-650-Ps.

7. Krzystof Dabala of KOD Audio (Meyer dealer in Poland) reports that Fotis Sound supplied a Meyer sound system for the 40th Annual Jazz Jamboree, October 19 - 25, 1998. Jamboree artists included Ray Brown, Joe Lovano, Kevin Mahogany, John Scofield, Mike Stern, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Eddie Palmieri, Dr. John & Lounge Lizard. According to Dabala, the audience remarked it was the best sounding Jamboree Festival ever!

8. Werner Hessler of Atec Audio, Meyer's Austrian dealer, reports that Sound Art Service (SAS) is supplying an all-Meyer system for the 1998 Vienna Film Festival, a series of screenings of filmed performances by the greats of classical music. This year's festival focuses around the 90th birthday of Herbert von Karajan, the 80th birthday of Leonard Bernstein, and the 50th anniversary of the death of Franz Lehar.

Based in the Austrian capital, SAS is providing sound reinforcement for the Vienna Rathausplatz, where classical performances from around the world play on a large video screen each night of the festival (July 4 through August 30). Self-Powered equipment includes four MSL-4 loudspeakers , 2 650-P subwoofers, two CQ-1 loudspeakers , and two CQ-2 loudspeakers . Eight UPA-1C conventionally-powered loudspeakers round out the system, which was designed by Stefan Schlogl of SAS, and Professor Fritz, audio engineer for the Staatsoper opera house in Vienna.
