News Briefs Latin America 1999
Puerto Rico "The band prefers the Meyer Sound system for its sound clarity, quick setup and its compact size," said Javier Diaz of Progressive Sound DJ's. Diaz added that the rock group Fiel a la Vega was also recently on tour with a similar Meyer Sound system based on UPA-1P's and USW-1P's throughout Puerto Rico during the months of June and July. Puerto Rico Progressive Sound DJ's of Puerto Rico recently announced that the popular Pop Rock band Fiel A La Vega is on tour throughout Puerto Rico utilizing a Meyer Sound system comprised of self-powered UPA-1P's and USW-1P's. The group, who has produced such notable albums as "Fiel A La Vega: El Concierto Acustico" and its most recent album, "Fiel A La Vega: A Quien Pueda Interesar," has attracted a sizable international following over the past several years. Together, vocalist Tito Auger's stylings fused with percussionist Papo Roman's rhythm continue to reach audiences not only in Puerto Rico, but throughout Latin America and the U.S. Recently in the State Capital city of Mérida, Yucatán pro-audio system provider, Light and Sound Productions, supplied a complete Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeaker system for the inauguration of the Centro de Convenciones y Exposiciones Yucatán Siglo XXI (Yucatán Convention Center & Expo XXI). The new company, coordinated by Raúl Abreu, owner of Abreu Productions, configured the system utilizing a host of 650-Ps, MSL-4s, CP-10 parametric equalizers and an LD-1A. Loudness Sonorizaçáo of Brazil recently purchased 12 MSL-4s with Meyer Sound's new L-Track rigging hardware in late September. The equipment will be used to further supplement the pro-audio rental company's growing Meyer Sound equipment list which currently consists of: an RMS Host Station, MSL-4s, CQ-2s, DS 2Ps, LD-1As, UPA-1Ps, UPA-2Ps, 650-Ps, MTS-4s, UM-1Ps, UPL-2s, UM-1Cs, UPM-2s, MSL-2s, MSW-2s, CP-10s, PSM-2, VX-1s, and SIM System II. World-renowned Latin recording artist, Marco Antonio Solis, is currently on tour with a Meyer Sound system, touring such cities as Miami, New York, Atlanta, Phoenix, San Jose, Puerto Rico and ending his three-month tour on October 31 in Yurecuaro, Michoacan.
Solis, whose latest album, "Trozos De Mi Alma," ("Pieces of My Soul") has captured the attention of fans around the world, collaborated his efforts with the prestigious musical arranger Bebu Silveti. Included in his latest album are 10 songs that Solis had originally written for other artists, which ironically, were never sung by Solis until the recent release of "Trozos De Mi Alma." Curitiba, Brazil "On a previous job when I worked with this company [Loudness], they supplied four Meyer Sound systems including components such as MSL-4s, MSL-2As, UM-1Ps, UM- 1s, UPA-1Ps, UPMs, SIM, and Meyer's RMS Remote Monitoring System," said Dominique Chalhoub, sound designer and FOH engineer for the event. "Their work was perfect, as well as their understanding of SIM. It's a very good thing that Brazil, at last, has a company such as Loudness with Meyer equipment who knows how to use it." In addition to Dominique Chalhoub who served as the sound designer and FOH engineer for the inauguration show, there were SIM engineers Marcio Pilot and Celson do Prado and an auxiliary audio staff including Claudio Motta, Milton Santos, Kim dos Santos and Miguel Arbo. Recent corporate events which have used Loudness and Meyer Sound equipment: San Jose, Costa Rica "It was very useful for me, because it cleared many concepts that I had not understood completely or had misunderstood," said Mauricio Wedel of R.S.T.V. "The knowledge that I acquired is a great help in improving our Meyer System's efficiency. Practical demonstrations are the best way to teach these topics." Equipment displayed at the seminar included SIM System II, the SB-1 Parabolic Sound Beam, the MSL-4, the 650-P, the UM-1P and the LD-1A Line Driver. "The audience members were surprised with the quality and depth of the information," said Mauricio Ramirez, Meyer Sound Mexico's training director. "Generally misunderstood concepts like phase and polarity surprised everyone. Also, issues such as comb filtering, coverage and beam width, arrayability, distortion, SPL and the Self-Powered Series helped to change their way of thinking." Mexico City, Mexico For the final show, a large-scale Meyer system was configured, integrating 88 MSL-4s, 32 PSW-2s, and 48 650-Ps, driven with 5 CP-10s, 2 LD-1A Line Drivers and 2 four-channel digital delay lines. On stage, monitoring was also 100 percent self-powered, with PSM-2s, 4 MSL-4s, 4 650-Ps and 1 LD-1A. Javier Barba, owner of Procolor, was thrilled with the results the large-scale MSL-4 system provided. "We combined rental inventory from two different companies, and thanks to the self-powered approach, every cabinet was completely compatible. The system went together very quickly with no problems. This would have been impossible with any other system out there." Esperanza Gonzolez, Timbiriche's Manager, added, "Anytime a major US tour comes to Mexico, they play here at the Foro Sol. This was the best sounding system that I've ever heard in this venue. The sound at every one of the 54,000 seats was clean and powerful. The show was a tremendous success." In Puerto Rico, Progressive Sound's DJ, Javier Diaz, purchased 6 - UPA-1Ps and 4 - USW-1P Self-Powered Systems from Gustavo Domenech of Professional Audio Designers in February. Progressive Sound is the first and only company in Puerto Rico that owns the USW-1P Reinforcement Subwoofers. The new Self-Powered units were used in conjunction with 6 Meyer UPA-1Cs, 2 USW-1Ps and 2 650-R2s. The new system was tuned by Antonio Zacarias, Meyer Sound Mexico, using SIM System II to optimize the performance of the system and to provide final system alignment. Touring with the band Maná in late Summer '98, Procolor Guadalajara supplied Meyer Sound audio equipment for the "Sueños Liquidos" US tour. Included in the configuration were 32 Meyer Sound MSL-4s, 12 - PSW-2s, 18 - 650-Ps and 16 - PSM-2s. Eduardo Sandoval tailored the system to meet the needs of the various amphitheaters as Sound Designer and SIM TM Operator for Procolor Guadalajara. Fernando Perez worked as the FOH Engineer while Sandoval also served as Monitor Engineer on the tour. Maná's venues included: the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, the Greek Theater in Hollywood, the Coors Amphitheater in San Diego, and Red Rocks in Denver. November, 1999 |
