Leipzig, Germany José Carreras
Joy Music Veranstaltungstechnik announced that a host of UPA-2P self-powered loudspeaker systems will be utilized for the José Carreras Gala at the distinguished Hotel Inter-Continental Leipzig in Germany.

The event, which takes place on Friday, December 17, will be held after the world-renowned tenor's performance at Leipzig Fairhall 7, which is expected to attract more than 3000 attendees.

Anna-Maria Kaufmann On tour throughout 22 venues in Germany during recent months were world-renowned artists Peter Hofmann and Anne-Maria Kaufmann. The tour, powered by a Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeaker system, included a main system of 16 MSL-4s and 4 650-Ps.

"We just bought the system and are especially pleased with the clear vocals and the soft and transparent sound," said Rainer Brünjes of HANSA PA Prod. GmbH. "The tour management was very delighted."

Providing the Meyer Sound equipment for the duration of the tour was HANSA PA Prod. GMBH of Bremen.

Both Hofmann and Kaufmann are well-known for their vocal stylings and contributions to opera and the theatre.

L'Aquila, Italy
Agora of L'Aquila, Italy, recently purchased a host of 16 650-R2 reinforcement subwoofers and 5 MSL-5's, increasing the range of its Meyer Sound rental stock.

The company's Meyer Sound equipment list also includes a host of UPA-1A/B/C's, MSL-3A's, DS-2's, a SIM System II, MSL-4's, CP-10's and LD-1A line drivers.

Leonberg, Germany music & light design GmbH of Germany announced that Porsche Japan recently utilized a Meyer Sound system at the 33rd Tokyo Motor Show. The world-renowned event, held from October 22nd to November 3rd attracted thousands of attendees from around the world over the 12-day span.

"Porsche wanted to have cabinets with excellent clarity and more importantly, a system that could run under any condition," said Heiko Müller of music & light design GmbH. "They said that they were building the best cars in the world, so they needed an equal caliber sound system."

On display for attendees was Porsche's flagship 911 Turbo model as well as a host of the company's new 2000 models. Combined, a total of 294 companies from 15 countries displayed their products, all focussing around the show's theme, "Eye to the future. Changing vehicles for the earth."

Estoril, Portugal Du Arte Garden
Recently the Casino Estoril, located 18 Km from Lisbon, purchased 12 UM-1P's from Meyer Sound Portuguese Distributor, AudioPro Live. The new self-powered loudspeakers will tie into the existing Meyer Sound systems already in use at both of the Casino's largest clubs: Du Arte Garden, and the American Bar.

The beachfront Du Arte Garden, which stretches along the renowned Tamariz shoreline, features daily performances by more than 30 artists and musicians, while the American Bar offers a traditional "American bar" setting.

In its third year providing sound reinforcement services for the Stonewall Equality Show, Sound by Design Ltd. supplied a Meyer Sound system comprised of MSL-4's with CQ-1's for downfill. The 10th annual fundraising event, staged at London's Royal Albert Hall, was designed by Phil Wright who utilized Meyer Sound's new L-Track rigging system for the event.

"The new L-Track enabled us to speed up and sub-hire more easily," said Wright.

Featured at this year's event were such notable artists as George Michael and Sir Elton John.

Sound by Design Ltd. announced that the renowned UK Soprano, Lesley Garrett, will begin her Fall season at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Powering Garrett's performances will be a host of Meyer Sound MSL-2's and UPA-1C's.
"The SIM II aligned Meyer system provides me with substantial gain before feedback, even with Ms. Garrett in front of the system," said Phil Wright, FOH engineer.

Matthew Borden, senior engineer for Sound by Design Ltd., recently completed "Investors in People," a large-scale corporate event for the UK Government Department. The annual awards ceremony was held simultaneously in five UK cities, which were linked via satellite. Integrated into the system design were a host of UPA's and MSL-2's that provided the sound reinforcement for the 1,500 audience members.

Wine Growers FestivalAccording to Hyperson Sonorisations, Meyer Sound's dealer in Switzerland, the Fêtes des Vignerons (Wine Growers Festival), held in Vevey, Switzerland every 25 years, was once again an extraordinary event. More than 250,000 people attended the Festival over the 16-day period.

This year, the event was powered by a Meyer Sound rig comprised of 12 MSL-6's, 24 DS-4P's, 20 MSL-4's, and 12 CQ-2's. The system was complemented by four towers with MSL-5's, DS-2's, MSL-4's and CQ-1's for surround & percussion effects. Out of the 4000 actors & the symphonic orchestra, 80 were fitted with a choice of Sennheiser UHF microphones. A 5 x 40 channel console was used for mixing the different sources along with an SSL equipped mobile studio, Le Voyageur 1, for mixing the orchestra.

Staffordshire, U.K.   
Pop sensation, Bryan Adams, appeared for one day on July 24th at the Alton Towers arena in Staffordshire. Providing the Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeaker system for the concert event was Canegreen of London who supplied 3 MSL-6s, 5 DS-2Ps and 10 MSL-4s on either side of the stage, with 8 650-Ps situated under each of the flown systems.

"While testing the system we found that the coverage was good in all areas of the arena," said Yan Stile of Canegreen. "Both the organizer and promoter's representative were present when we ran the system up and both commented on how good the Spl, range and coverage were throughout the venue.

Designing the PA for the one-day concert event was Andrew Frengley of Canegreen and Tony Zabo, sound technician for the Bryan Adams tour.

Hof Audio of the Netherlands recently provided a complete Meyer Sound self-powered loudspeaker system for the AVRO Prinsengrachtconcert in Amsterdam on August 21. The annual event, which is a part of the Amsterdam Grachtenfestival (canal festival) was organized by AVRO (one of Holland's national broadcasting companies) and was attended by a group of more than 20,000 visitors.

The system configuration throughout the canal and the quay consisted of 10 Meyer Sound MSL-4s, 8 UPA-1Ps, 10 650-Ps, 8 CQ-1s, and 2 UPM-1P self-powered loudspeaker systems.

"After doing the AVRO Prinsengrachtconcert for several years we gained a lot of experience in sound reinforcement for this special event," said Bart Hof of Hof Audio. This year's program featured several prominent Dutch personalities reciting poems written by Ivo de Wijs for Saint-Sans classical piece: Carnaval des animaux. We knew that the program was going to need clear and accurate speech reproduction and natural sound reinforcement as well. Afterwards, we received great responses from our client, the audience and the media in regards to the overall production and the premium sound quality."

"The Lion King" Takes To London's West End - Sound Provided by Autograph Sound Recording

Lion King The full production of the musical, scheduled to open to the public on Thursday, October 27, was a hit Broadway production winning a total of six Tony awards, including best musical, for its list of popular hits with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Sir Elton John. Notable songs include: "Circle Of Life," "Hakuna Matata," and "Can You Feel The Love Tonight."

Providing the Meyer Sound equipment for the award-winning musical is Autograph Sound Recording based out of London, the sister company of Autograph Sales. The pro-audio configuration at the historic grade II Theatre will consist of 9 Meyer Sound self-powered CQ-2s for the main system, 7 650-Ps for FX subwoofers, 4 USW-1Ps for orchestra subwoofers, 6 UPA-1Ps for the orchestra system, 6 UPL-2s for rear FX, 6 UPL-2s for on-stage foldback and 14 CP-10s.

Providing the technical expertise for the musical's 700-seat audience will be Andy Brown, sound production engineer for Autograph Sound Recording.

Hof Audio of Holland announced that they recently provided the PA at the EO Youthday [EO Jongerendag] on Saturday, June 26 at the Amsterdam Arena. The annual, one-day youth event was organized by the Evangelical Broadcast company, Holland's largest Broadcasting Association. Consulting on the project were John Monitto of Meyer Sound and Francois Dejardins, system designer/technician for Solotech out of Montreal.

Powering the audio throughout the enclosed soccer arena, which has a capacity of 56,000 visitors, was a Meyer Sound system consisting of MSL-6s, SB-1s, MSL-4s, MSL-5s, CQ-2s, UPA-1Ps, DS-2s and PSW-6 loudspeakers.

"After visiting the Amsterdam Arena with the Celine Dion setup I could see that the need for a Hi-Q system was absolutely necessary for the success of the EO Youthday, due to the venue's glass roof structure," said John Monitto of Meyer Sound. "Francois Dejardins was also a great choice to help fine tune the system design because of his vast experience with these types of venues and events."

R.E.M. will be at the world-renowned Lansdowne Road Stadium in Dublin, Ireland on July 16. The already sold-out rugby venue, which holds 40,000 visitors, will feature a Meyer Sound system supplied by Canegreen of London.

Included in the configuration are 5 Meyer Sound MSL-6s, 15 MSL-4s with another 5 MSL-4s groundstacked, 20 650-R2s and a number of MSL-2s positioned around the stage. At the four delay positions another 12 MSL-4s will be used in conjunction with 8 MSL-3s to widen coverage. For frontfills a combination of 4 MSL-4s and 2 PSW-2s will also be used.

In concert the following day, July 17, is the Irish band, The Corrs, who will power their performance with the same Meyer Sound system as R.E.M.

English National Ballet
The Ballet's performances, held in the round, feature a center cluster rig of Meyer Sound MSL-4s, MSL-3s and MSL-2s with UPA-1P and 650-Ps for the ground system.

Serving as SIM engineer, sound designer and FOH engineer for the tour is Phil Wright of B & H Production Services, Ltd.

In other news, UK soprano, Lesley Garrett, has acquired the technical expertise of B & H Production Services' senior classical engineer, Phil Wright, throughout her '99 tour dates in Europe. Garrett, who has performed at numerous events and venues throughout the year, has selected Meyer Sound as her exclusive system while on tour.

Canegreen of London recently provided the pro-audio equipment for the classical violinist Nigel Kennedy. Kennedy, who performed at the Milton Keynes Bowl in late June, is well known for his musical achievements and eclectic stylings. Powering Kennnedy's performance of his recent album "Kreisler" were a host of 24 Meyer Sound MSL-4s, 8 DS-2s, 12 650-Ps, 8 MSL-2s, and 2 PSM-2s.

Canegreen of London announced that Al Green, the renowned Southern soul singer, is on tour with a Meyer Sound rig consisting of 16 MSL-4s and 8 650-P Self-Powered Loudspeaker Systems. Opening for Green will be Beverly Knight, performing tracks off her recent album "Prodigal Sista."

Cantonese Pop King Jacky Cheung recently appeared for two fun-filled nights at London's Docklands Arena on June 20- June 21. With more than a decades worth of pop hits, Cheung has managed to top the charts with a number of tracks from his 40-plus albums. Providing the pro-audio equipment for Hong Kong's long-running pop sensation was Canegreen of London who supplied a configuration of 24 Meyer Sound MSL-4s, 8 DS-2Ps and 12 650-P Self-Powered Loudspeaker Systems. Also used at the Cheung concerts were a host of 8 Meyer Sound MSL-2s and 2 PSM-2s.

Tal & Ton Studioteknik of Sweden announced that the Stockholm City Theatre recently installed 4 Meyer Sound UPA-1P Self-Powered Loudspeaker Systems in late June. The new units were purchased to augment the current conventionally-powered Meyer Sound system.

"They [Stockholm City Theatre] have some 35 Meyer boxes already, so the change into powered boxes was not unnatural, especially since the Theatre did some very thorough testing before purchasing." said Jan Setterberg of Tal & Ton Studioteknik.
