Meyer System Meets The Junction

Therapy? performing next to the Meyer MTS-4A

Built in 1990 in Cambridge, UK the Junction was designed as a 400-capacity venue for live-music and performance art–staging contemporary dance, live comedy, as well as modern theatrical and 'new media' events. It plays host to a variety of live-music: from folk and world, through to rock and pop, with acts as varied as Paul Weller and Ice-T. It also enjoys a reputation for spotlighting up and coming stars before they reach international stardom, and has done so for such notable artists as M-People, Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Jamiroquai, Jack Dee and Jo Brand.

In recent years, two building extensions have expanded the auditorium's standing room capability, enabling it to comfortably hold an audience of 850 for live-music, and 1,050 for club events. For a compact all-around sound reinforcement solution that would economize on valuable auditorium space, Autograph Sales, Ltd., supplied The Junction with a Meyer Sound system featuring: MTS-4A full-range self-powered units and UM-1P stage monitors. Robert Plant was one of the first artists to use the Meyer system--with Irish hard rock/indie metal band Therapy?, being the most recent.

Robin Townley, Production and Project Manager at The Junction, commented on the choice: "We looked at various competitive products, but were immediately impressed with the Meyers. Physically, they have a very small footprint, which was of paramount importance to us, as we have incredible space constraints. Not only do the Meyers economize on space but, as they are self-powered, they keep the requirement for extra equipment to a bare minimum. The MTS-4As manage to pack 4 self-powered channels into an extremely compact enclosure that nevertheless fills our stage with full-range sound. It's literally just power and signal, and away you go! They provide great flexibility, in that you can assemble a small PA system, including monitoring, with the minimum amount of fuss - for indoor or outdoor use. We recently used them for a charity event on Jesus Green, Cambridge - and they performed exceptionally well. With regard to Autograph Sales, both the standard of support and after-sales back-up was second-to-none and I can highly recommend their services!"

The Junction's Meyer Sound system includes 2 x MTS-4A cabinets, plus UM-1P wedge monitors. Developed by Meyer to provide an "all-in-one-box" sound reinforcement solution - the MTS-4A is able to combine low-frequency efficiency and output, with outstanding mid and high frequency performance, and can deliver a typical SPL of up to 140dB. The remainder of the venue's system includes outboard equipment from BSS, Denon, Yamaha and Roland, a Crest Century VX console, for FOH duties, together with a Mackie 1604VLZ. Monitoring control is provided by a 32-channel Crest LM, whilst the microphone complement includes a broad selection of Shure equipment, plus a variety of Beyer stands.
