"That Sounds Gut!" "Kulturescheune" gives Meyer raves
Unique "Kulturscheune" Hof Aspich, Germany chooses Meyer Mario Klein, Event Manager from Technician, discusses the unique nature of the venue and why he chose Meyer... In the following interview, Klein talks about his club, his club's star attraction ("The Wright Thing"), and his newly upgraded Meyer Sound PA system. The Hof Aspich loudspeaker complement comprises two MTS-4A full range systems bolstered by a pair of PSW-4 subwoofers. When was the club built? After nine months of construction, we opened in 1994. And did you have a particular goal in mind when you built this kind of club? My motto is, "The mix is what makes it," and I suppose that defines my goal as well. I don't want to be stuck on a single track, but rather offer a wide variety that covers the full spectrum of the cultural scene. In this respect, the combination of microbrewery and live music club has proven to be a real plus. We cater to age groups ranging from one year old up to grandparents of 70 or 80. We have pony rides, drum 'n' bass disco, a chansons evening and a jazz matinee. I understand "The Wright Thing" is the top draw to your club. Who are they, and where did they come from? The Wright Thing is a conglomeration of fantastic musicians, who also happen to be lunatics! The prime example is the leader of the band, Jason Wright, who put together the group from nationally and internationally known musicians in the south German region. I discovered the band three years ago in Heidelberg, where they were drawing crowds of a thousand every Monday night to the "Nightshift" club. After considerable negotiations I succeeded in bringing this fantastic soul-pop-gospel-jazz combo to our little provincial town of Lahnstein. And it turned out to be a great idea, as they have been pulling in crowds of 400 to 600 per night for the monthly shows for over two years now. Jason has an extraordinary knack for putting on shows with an always-changing cast that combine set topical pieces with total surprises. How long have you had the Meyer PA system? We installed this system about three years ago. Did you notice any difference then? With the Meyer system, we have brought a fully professional sound to our club that performs consistently for all musical styles. Since we installed this system, we have succeeded in attracting musicians such as Billy Cobham, the Flying Pickets, Ezio and Xavier Naidoo to our club. Our experience with the Meyer loudspeaker systems is that we often have people coming up to the FOH mix and thanking us for the good sound, which is in contrast to some venues where they only come up to complain about bad sound. We get such compliments not only at concerts but also when we hold corporate events or weddings in here. You recently upgraded your MTS-4 speakers with new drivers and electronics. Have you noticed an improvement? The sound of the PA is even clearer and more powerful, something that is strikingly apparent in our drums 'n' bass events and the reaction has been very positive. With live bands that have a lot of dense musical information-the Wright Thing, for example, with fifteen musicians-the sound is even more defined and transparent. Is there anything else in particular that you like about the Meyer system? What I find particularly outstanding, and it is very important in this kind of venue, is the all-around capability of the Meyer Sound system. Here we do everything from speeches and classical to jazz, crossover and electro-beats. In every case, the performance is convincing. Also, I've been amazed at the reliability. We've never had a failure despite some pretty extreme use. For more photos, along with menus and coming attractions (in German), visit www.hof-aspich.de. October, 2000 |
