Famous Rhineland Civic Theater Installs Meyer
Project Manager Cites Meyer's Audio Quality and Ease of Installation as Important Benefits... In addition to thriving industries (including some world-renowned wineries) and a rich historical legacy, the Rhineland city of Worms also boasts an exuberant cultural arts scene. One focal point for regional arts activity is the Civic Theater of Worms, a modern multi-use performing arts facility which, among many other things, serves as a principal venue for the annual Worms Jazz Festival. The 800-seat auditorium also hosts a full schedule of classical concerts, plays, vocal music recitals, lectures and other arts events throughout the year. To keep pace with demands for higher quality sound and greater flexibility in system operation, the theater recently undertook installation of a completely new permanent sound system. Design and installation of the system, which incorporates a total of 19 Meyer Sound self-powered speakers, was contracted to the Bonn-based engineering firm, mediatec GmbH. Commenting on the choice of Meyer loudspeakers, mediatec project manager Dip.-Ing. Michael Wipperfurth notes that both quality and ease of installation were crucial considerations: "At mediatec we take great pride in the careful workmanship that we put into each project, so it goes without saying that we insist on installing only products that are of proven high quality and reliability. Whenever we install Meyer Sound loudspeakers, we know that we can fully satisfy the high expectations of the most demanding users, whether in theatrical or concert use. Regarding the installation, we had to spread our work across five dates that were scattered between performances, with absolutely no allowance for any interruption of the fixed program schedule. If we had used conventional loudspeakers without built-in amplifiers, I'm not sure that would have been possible." Once installed, both the theater's operational management and touring arts soon realized the benefits of the new Meyer loudspeakers. Because the previous system simply was not able to meet the demands of contemporary performances, many acts had to bring in portable systems for each performance. Today, most acts are spared the extra time and effort. A typical comment came from an audio technician accompanying the recent tour by well-known German TV comic Heinz Becker (a.k.a. Gerd Dudenhoefer): " We don't have to unpack our own rig anymore, because we can use everything here just as it is." The theater's own sound technicians have expressed considerable enthusiasm over the exceptional flexibility provided by their new system. In addition, both the theater management and responsible city administrators have praised the cooperative relationship with mediatec, and expressed complete satisfaction with the quality of workmanship and the resulting sonic improvements.
