Malaysia: April 2001 Kuala Lumpur Just a few short weeks after its introduction, Meyer Sound's revolutionary M3D line array with BroadbandQ had its first performance outside the U.S. this month as 12 of the systems provided sound for the opening and closing ceremonies of the PATA (Pacific Asian Tourism Association) conference held in Kuala Lumpur's Putra World Trade Center. Occurring only once every 6 years, PATA is attended by over 2,000 tourism industry delegates representing all parts of Asia and Australia. Hosted this year by the country of Malaysia, PATA 2001 opened with a welcome from the country's minister of arts and culture, featured national dance and music performances, and was graced with the attendance and address of Malaysian Prime Minister, Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, who was later reported to have said he'd "never heard audio as clear" in the venue. Malaysia-based Total Concept International (TCI) provided the M3D systems which were hung in 2 vertical arrays of 6 M3Ds with 3 Meyer UPAs hung below each column. The speaker's platform was lined with UPM-1Ps supplying vocal monitoring. TCI's owner, Anthony Musico, said the system flew with exceptional ease and provided a quality of sound reproduction that was "nothing short of spectacular." India: April 2001 Bangalore In the midst of their biggest world tour in 15 years, Deep Purple performed for over 15,000 excited fans on the Palace Grounds in Bangalore, India last Sunday night. Local traffic was at a standstill for over 2 hours as hard rock enthusiasts pressed to hear the band's full-throttle performance of classic hits from the past 30 years and new cuts from their well-received "Abandon." A total of 32 Meyer MSL-4s were installed on 40-foot high towers, sending power across 87,000 square feet of fans. Japan: April 2001 Hiroshima's St. Ruis Studio project studio of well-known artist, Dr. Ryuichi Doi -- recently purchased a pair of Meyer X-10s from Meyer Sound Japanese distributor ATL, Inc. Opened in May of 1997, the studio has recorded such works as "Prayer S" and "Canta Romanzo." System engineer Shinji Matsuura first heard the X-10s in a demo audition at Tokyo's Sound Craft Studios. Seeing their SIM response, he realized he'd need look no further to outfit St. Ruis. Says Matsuura, "I like the X-10s because they do not make the listeners perceive variation of responses when operating in low or high levels. The separation is quite good, affording optimal accuracy for recording, CD reference work and mixdown verification." Ibogawa's Aqua Theatre January 2001: Meyer Sound Self-Powered loudspeaker systems were chosen for the newly-built Aqua Hall, a 492-seat theatre located on the banks of the Ibogawa River in the Hyogo Prefecture of Japan. Ono Architectural Design, with the help of Mr. Yosuke Ishizuka, a member of the Sound Engineers and Artists Society of Japan and a respected authority on electroacoustics, chose Meyer Sound UPAs, UPMs and MTS-4s for proscenium and stage reinforcement and balcony delays; UM-100Ps for stage monitors; and an HD-1 system for control room monitoring.
