Fortune Smiles on M2D System in Vast D.C. Hall It was the most prestigious corporate event of the year in Washington, D.C. – and, quite likely, in the world. In November, Fortune magazine's Global Forum 2002 conference kicked off with a gala opening reception staged in a setting that presented monumental logistical and acoustical challenges. All in all, it was the ideal proving ground for an M2D Compact Curvilinear Array supplied by AV Concepts of Tempe, Arizona. Read More » |

Atlanta Warehouse-Turned-Church Now a Meyer Sound Showcase A commercial warehouse is not the type of structure known for pleasing acoustics. Undoubtedly the sound quality inside the empty building acquired by Atlanta's Vineyard Christian Fellowship earlier this year was, well, unholy at best. Meyer System a Gift to Florida Southern Since it opened in 1963, Florida Southern College's Branscomb Auditorium has been a focal point of performing arts activity for both the campus and the surrounding community of Lakeland. The 1,800-seat hall is lauded for its excellent acoustics, but the insufficient and antiquated house sound reinforcement system had necessitated outside system rentals for any music-oriented events requiring amplification. That costly and inefficient situation was remedied in the summer of 2002, when a generous alumni donor enabled the purchase of a new self-powered audio system from Meyer Sound. Read More » |

Meyer Unifies Church's Split Acoustics Sometimes small structures can create big acoustical headaches. One case in point is the modestly sized Davis Islands Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida, where expansion of the sanctuary left the worship space split into three separate — and uniquely problematic — acoustical zones. Fortunately, the church's troublesome 'split personality' was overcome by judicious application of self-powered loudspeaker systems from Meyer Sound. Read More » |

Interview with Sound Designer Mick Potter What's your normal process for approaching a system design? The first thing I'll do is talk to the producer, the director and the creative team and get a detailed feel for the show. This will include the overall dynamic of the show, what the music's going to entail, sound effects, surround sound, monitoring and how the imaging of the show's going to work — for example, whether it's going to be a natural-sounding show or a cinematic-sounding show. Having done that, I'll look at the venue in detail and, most importantly, the production and set design concept. Then, I'll start piecing it together from there. Read More » |

Meyer at St. Mary's - Sound From the Shadows Acoustics and visual aesthetics frequently collide in churches with older buildings and traditional architecture, where liturgical worship styles are often the norm. Fortunately, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in El Dorado, Arkansas, potential conflicts between acoustics and aesthetics were resolved by the installation of a discreet, self-powered loudspeaker system from Meyer Sound. Since Solís is a longtime Meyer Sound user, it wasn't surprising when his management approached Meyer Sound Mexico a few days before the concert to ask for design and technical assistance. According to Marco Antonio Solís' personal manager Miguel Angel Solís, they faced a particularly challenging venue – one not only famous for being the world's largest bullfight plaza (45,000-seat capacity), but also one where good sound is a vexing problem. Meyer Bid Comes Up a Winner for Louisiana Theater Hammond, Louisiana, the home of Southeastern Louisiana University, is just far enough from New Orleans to make an evening away at the theater or concert hall a tiresomely long affair. It's not surprising, then, that area residents and SLU students rejoiced at proposals for turning the city's vacant, circa 1928 Columbia Theater into a performing arts center. In January of 2002, after a two-year, $4.9 million restoration funded by local and state sources, the Columbia Theater for the Performing Arts opened for a full slate of shows. The venue quickly drew rave reviews for its architectural integrity, excellent acoustics and first-rate sound system. Read More » |

The event was the Oscars after party charity fund-raiser for the AIDS Foundation, hosted by Instyle and the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Jeff Welton of Goodman Audio recalls, "The tent was about 100 feet long with a 20 foot deep stage. There were two M2Ds per side hung off the truss just below the ceiling and they literally threw all the way to the back of the tent. I thought it was fantastic. The sound level was very high but it never seemed like it was killing you." Goodman Audio provided all of the control equipment for this event, which was one of the two biggest after parties following the Oscars ceremony. Read More » |

Our market is very demanding, needs very robust equipment, and compatibility is also an issue. Analog is very well proven, easy to interconnect and capable of very high quality.
