Meyer Sound Spain
Although it's only three years since Rafael Jimenez and his sales company Rental Multimedia Systems (RMS) became a regional Meyer Sound dealer in Andalusia in southern Spain, he's already broken records for Meyer Sound. Six months after taking on the dealership, Jimenez – better known as Rafa – set up Meyer Sound España (MSE) in Seville. A number of important orders were placed by well-known Spanish PA companies during its first two years, and in 2001 MSE racked up more sales of Meyer Sound products in a year than any other European distributor – $2.7 million USD worth of equipment. Jimenez started his sales career working for his father's car dealership. His love of music and flamenco guitar inspired him to leave the automobile industry and start several music-related businesses. He formed RMS in 1993 to distribute audio brands including Hughes & Kettner, and built up solid pro audio experience for the next seven years. By the end of 2000 he was ready to concentrate on one brand alone – Meyer Sound. The Meyer Sound rental network in Spain has flourished as a result of Rafa's dedication. When he began, there were less than ten Meyer-based rental companies in Spain, 80% of which had only MSL-3 systems. Today the network encompasses more than forty-five rental organizations, three of which own the M3D Line Array Loudspeaker System with M3D-Sub Directional Subwoofers, while more than 90% already own the self-powered Concert Series and UltraSeries. MSE currently employs fifteen people, including three regional sales staff (north, south and east), a Meyer Sound School employee and a technical services manager. In 2002, the company opened an office in Madrid with a design and projects department. MSE offers 24-hour support to Meyer Sound owners and users and is a fully equipped Meyer Service Center with factory trained and certified personnel, using a MATE (Meyer Automated Test Equipment) unit and a SIM System ll FFT Analyzer for equipment diagnostic and performance verification. During 2000, a system performance evaluation program was implemented to check Meyer Sound equipment, regardless of its age, at the customer's location. SIM II support is provided, and is free of charge to regular rental customers for larger events. MSE also stocks replacement parts and offers nationwide training and seminar programs in Spanish from audio basics to SIM System II. As well as serving as a source of extra rental gear, MSE also hosts meetings for Meyer rental customers to encourage cross rentals. Rafa is confident that the company is poised to take the Meyer Sound brand even further in Spain. "We are convinced that with the new products Meyer is releasing, we can sell even more this year than in 2001," he says. Among recent customers for Meyer Sound España is Spanish rental company Fluge, which supplied its new M3D system for several live concerts by Manolo García at the Palacio de Congresos in Madrid. A Meyer Sound system was also used for Spain's annual Amigo music awards ceremony, which brings together a range of national and international musicians including Miguel Bosé, Kylie Minogue, Paulina Rubio, Rosana, Carlos Vives and Rosario.
