Dubai-based PA company Artes rolled out its brand new Meyer Sound M3D Line Array system for a recent stop on a Middle East tour by Irish pop singing sensation (and former Boyzone member) Ronan Keating. The concert, staged on the grounds of the Hotel Intercontinental in Muscat, Oman, drew a crowd of almost 3,000.

"The venue was a bit of a challenge as we had VIP seating areas that were not in the main coverage area," says Artes events production specialist Guddi Bajaj. "However, we managed to address these areas very well using the M3Ds."

The system was configured with five M3Ds and one M3D-Sub Directional subwoofer per side as the main arrays, with two M3D-Subs in center stage position to even out low-end coverage over the entire audience area. Additionally, two CQ-2 Full-Range Narrow Coverage loudspeakers were positioned on stage on the inner sides of each of the PA wings for front fill, and one more CQ-2 was positioned on the outer side of the stage right PA wing for side coverage.

The system was controlled was via Meyer Sound LD-1A Line Drivers and CP-10 Complementary Phase Parametric equalizers. Meyer Sound's director of Asia-Pacific technical support, Eddy Vermeersch, assisted with the system setup, using Meyer Sound's MAPP Online multipurpose acoustical prediction program to predetermine the correct system alignment.

Artes engineer Avril Rodriguez, a long time fan of Meyer Sound, was pleased to have the opportunity to use the M Series on such a prestigious event. "The first time I heard a Meyer system was a small set up of MSL-4s back home in India," he recalls. "What really caught my attention was the quality of vocals. They were so rich…."

Keating's own front of house engineer was extremely pleased with the tuning and performance of the system, and found no need to change anything for the show. For his part, Rodriguez claimed that he had never heard such uniformity all over the venue, and was particularly impressed by the tightly controlled low end. "The system was just amazing," he says.
