Meyer Connects with TourLink in Orlando
Meyer Sound will be demonstrating the MILO high-power curvilinear array system at TourLink, a unique two-day conference and exhibition covering all facets of the touring entertainment production business. Tour Link is scheduled for November 21 and 22, and is conveniently co-located with the LDI show at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. According to Meyer Sound's director of marketing, Tim Chapman, the growing importance of TourLink and the Florida location were key factors in the company's decision to attend. "The touring industry is vital to Meyer Sound, as it always has been the main proving ground for our new technologies," Chapman says. "Sound is not the primary focus of TourLink, but the event does give us a rare opportunity to demonstrate our products to another tier of decision makers and influential players. Also, there's no other show that allows us to present a full-size system in a real-world environment. Finally, considering all the activity just in the Orlando area, we simply couldn't pass up the opportunity." The Meyer Sound system will be flown at stage S5, one of six stages erected in a large parking lot adjacent to the convention center. Main full range clusters will comprise MILO cabinets and M3D-Sub directional subwoofers. Rounding out the system will be UPJ-1P compact wide-coverage VariO loudspeakers for sub fill and M1D ultra-compact curvilinear array loudspeakers for front fill, with UM-1P narrow coverage monitors provided as on-stage wedges. Each stage showcases the products of several manufacturers, and sharing the audio spotlight at stage S5 will be digital console maker DiGiCo. Throughout the event, attendees will have ample opportunity for inspection of the MILO loudspeakers, QuickFly rigging, associated electronics (including the new LD-3 compensating line driver), and system design plots from Meyer Sound's MAPP Online prediction program. However, to avoid general cacophony, each stage will present only three half-hour live performances daily. Featured performer will be avant-garde country singer/songwriter Teresa, with additional musical contributions expected from Meyer Sound regional sales representatives Jim Sides on drums and Sandy Macdonald on Hammond B3. Meyer Sound tour liaison Buford Jones will handle mixing chores, and also will present an informal seminar on FOH mixing in cooperation with Meyer Sound contract consultant Dave Lawler. The Meyer Sound system and other ancillary equipment are provided courtesy of Show Systems of Orlando, with logistical coordination by Frank Snipes "After only one summer on the road, MILO has already turned the touring business on its ear," says Tim Chapman. "A great many systems are already on tour worldwide. Fortunately, TourLink, with its co-location with LDI and being held in Orlando will give a great many people a chance to hear what the buzz is all about." November, 2003 |
