Mexico is fertile country for music tours, from the venues of the world's second largest city to local soccer stadiums. Musica Moderna has worked them all as Mexico's most prominent sound rental company, putting the company at the top of the heap in Latin America. With abundant technical prowess in its staff and a huge selection of Meyer Sound loudspeakers in its inventory, Musica Moderna is renowned not only for its size, but also for the quality of its equipment and services.

Founded by Enrique Perez, Sr., 35 years ago, Musica Moderna technical operations are now handled by his son, Enrique Perez, Jr., while the elder Perez continues to run the business side. When it was founded, Musica Moderna rented small sound systems and sold a few musical instruments. The firm has grown into an empire of: two stores selling musical instruments and sound systems of all sizes, the rental company, and companies supplying LED screens, lighting and power equipment.

Today, Musica Moderna mainly services music events in the region, providing equipment and support to a long list of prominent artists as diverse as Oasis, Sting, Juan Gabriel, Pavarotti, Jamiroquai, Garibaldi, Paulina Rubio, Yes, Ricky Martin, Mötley Crüe, Lucero and Metallica. This takes the company into many of Mexico's most prestigious venues, including Auditorio Nacional, Palacio de los Deportes, Teatro Coca-Cola at Monterrey and Estadio Azteca.

Musica Moderna's rental company is quite substantial in size and features an immense quantity of Meyer Sound products. Their inventory contains more than 325 Meyer Sound loudspeakers — the largest complement of Meyer Sound equipment in the Americas — including nearly 100 MSL-4 cabinets, 28 M3D line array loudspeakers, 12 M3D-Sub directional subwoofers, 54 650-P high-power subwoofers, 14 DS-2P horn-loaded mid-bass loudspeakers and 12 MSL-6 horn-loaded high-Q main loudspeakers. To make the fullest use of all of this loudspeaker firepower, Musica Moderna has a host of Meyer Sound line drivers and equalizers, a huge quantity of QuickFly rigging and a SIM audio analyzer system, which is operated by two staff members who have been fully certified by Meyer Sound.

Musica Moderna began its involvement with Meyer Sound in 1995, when another Mexican sound company closed its doors and Perez, Sr. bought its MSL-3 reinforcement loudspeakers. Musica Moderna's new loudspeakers were well received by its clientele, prompting the purchase of MSL-4 cabinets shortly after the product's release. Around the same time, Meyer Sound set up an office in Mexico, which quickly became busy supporting Musica Moderna.

According to Perez, Jr., his father did not set out to build such a large Meyer Sound inventory. "He bought eight MSL-4s and was going to stay with those, but our clients wouldn't let him stop." Perez, Sr., kept buying more MSL-4s, then began selling them too. The quantity rose to a high of 180 cabinets at one point, and now hovers around 100.

Clearly, Perez, Jr., and his clients are satisfied by the performance of Meyer Sound products. "It's the best technology and the best sound," he states. "Meyer Sound makes their loudspeakers sound crystal clear and consistent, which is important for us. Wherever we go, we know it's going to be a consistent show."

Perez, Jr., believes so heavily in the value and quality of his self-powered Meyer Sound loudspeakers that he rarely ever chooses to use any other kind for concerts done by Musica Moderna. With such a heavy commitment to one company's products, support is key, and Perez feels Meyer Sound has lived up to his requirements in that area. "Meyer Sound has always been there for us in every sense, trying to help technically and providing service that is really good. That really counts for us."

With one of the world's most extensive Meyer Sound inventories, it's no surprise that Perez, Jr., is closely eyeing the system that is growing faster in popularity than any other: the MILO high-power curvilinear loudspeaker. "We are convinced of the superior sound and flexibility of MILO," he reports. "All our customers who have heard it loved its sound at first hearing, making it a sure hit for us, so we are eager to get some of them in the near future. I am sure that MILO will enrich our company with a state-of -the-art audio tool that is simply big in power and sonically precise."
