Meyer Sound Hits it Big at PLASA
Staged annually at London's Earl's Court Exhibition Centre by the Professional Lighting and Sound Association (PLASA) the recently completed PLASA show demonstrated once again why it has become a highlight of the European trade show calendar for the audio industry.
On the floor of this year's show, which ran from September 11-14, the busy Meyer Sound stand was the scene of a number of exciting developments, not the least of which were the display of the MICA compact high-power curvilinear array loudspeaker — hotly received since its summer release — and the European trade show debut of the new 600-HP high-power subwoofer. Demonstrations of the new Galileo loudspeaker management system wowed the crowds, while a significant software update to the SIM 3 audio analyzer also stirred interest. The newest and most compact member of the acclaimed MILO family of loudspeakers, the mid-sized MICA system was a tremendous success at this year's Montreux Jazz Festival. MICA has already logged extensive touring miles across Europe and the UK, including stints by sound company Major Tom, Ltd. with Rod Stewart and the Proms (which took place in London during PLASA). Meyer Sound Design Services Manager Todd Meier's presentations of the Galileo system generated crowds and excitement, as showgoers watched the powerful Galileo 616 processor and Compass control software in operation. Designed to drive and align sound systems employing multiple zones, Galileo was created as the perfect complement to Meyer Sound's self-powered loudspeaker systems. The ardent response at PLASA indicated that the industry's eyes are on the product.
Also displayed was a new grille frame for the UPA-1P compact wide coverage loudspeaker. The new solid frame design can be retrofitted to the many older UPA cabinets still in the field as well, and will be available in early 2006. Overall, the show floor was quite busy, with attendance reportedly up from previous years, and the Meyer Sound booth proved to be a draw throughout the exhibition. "It was an extremely successful show for us," remarks Roger Harpum, Meyer Sound's U.K. sales manager. "I was particularly impressed with the quality of customers and engineers who visited our stand. There's a real 'buzz' about Meyer Sound at present, and with the introduction of and interest in MICA at the show, it will doubtless increase." With Meyer Sound headquartered thousands of miles away, attendees appreciated the opportunity to interact directly with factory staff. "Having Meyer Sound loudspeakers in our inventory at Capital, we obviously are familiar with the products," says Paul Timmins of Capital Sound, "but PLASA was a good place to meet with the Meyer Sound team and discuss things we don't normally have time to talk about when in the office or on site. The seminars on the stand are a good idea, too, and a very useful resource." Other booths also got in on the Meyer Sound action, especially the Digidesign booth, which sported a number of Meyer Sound cabinets. October, 2005 |
