Meyer Sound Helps Launch New Live Sound Program at Texas's South Plains College When considering educational programs in audio production, prospective students probably think first of schools located in Nashville, Los Angeles, or Orlando, but certainly not Levelland, Texas. Yet, on the windswept grasslands 30 miles west of Lubbock, students discover a hidden jewel of a program at South Plains College (SPC), a comprehensive two-year community college with more than 100 associate degree and certificate options. The college's Sound Technology program, a part of their Creative Arts department, has been in place for 25 years and received national acclaim. In November 2006, the college's recently added Live Sound/Sound Reinforcement Certificate program received a powerful boost from a two-day seminar presented in conjunction with Meyer Sound's worldwide educational program. |

In a given year, the Charlie Daniels Band still plays 130 or more shows all over the globe, hardly leaving the road except to hit the studio and add to Daniels's discography of 47 albums (not counting various concert recordings, collections and compilations). His first album of duets, featuring such prominent country stars as Gretchen Wilson, Brad Paisley, and Travis Tritt, is slated for release in early 2007. Meyer Sound MILO Helps Transform Historic Paramount Theatre Located on Broadway in downtown Oakland, Calif., the Paramount Theatre is a slice of living history that also embodies the end of an era. Back in the "golden age" of film, when Hollywood studios owned every major theatre and completely controlled film distribution, ornate, impressive theatres like the Paramount were the order of the day. However, the Great Depression changed that equation, and the Paramount, with its magnificent, 2,992-seat, Art Deco design, was the last studio-owned movie palace built in the nation. Over the years, the theatre changed hands several times as both the downtown film market and the building itself slowly decayed, and in 1970, the doors were shut for good. Or at least until 1972, when the Oakland Symphony (now the Oakland East Bay Symphony) purchased it and restored it to its original grandeur, reopening it as a performing arts center. Shortly thereafter, it was declared a National Historic Landmark, and ownership was transferred to the city. Read More » |
