UC Berkeley Memorial Stadium Upgrades to Meyer Sound
Fans of University of California Berkeley's Golden Bears are hearing a dramatic difference at the Memorial Stadium this season. Through a unique partnership with Berkeley-based Meyer Sound, the stadium has been upgraded with a new self-powered loudspeaker system to vastly improve the sound and intelligibility in each section. Twenty-four UPA-1P compact wide coverage loudspeakers are installed, replacing the decades-old horns surrounding the playing field. A Galileo loudspeaker management system is also used to control levels and delays. San Jose, Calif.-based Ceitronics's A/V project manager Ron Whigham and technician Dave McKinnon handled the installation. "I think everyone understands that the stadium was designed more than 80 years ago for a sports fan with simpler needs," said Bob Milano Jr., assistant athletic director for capital planning and management. "We have undertaken these improvements to make the stadium more enjoyable, and we truly appreciate Meyer Sound's support." Meyer Sound Executive Vice President Helen Meyer is pleased to be part of the Memorial Stadium's upgrade efforts. "As long-time Berkeley residents," Meyer says. "John (CEO John Meyer) and I know the stadium well and are excited about the improvements. We even think this new system will give the Bears a competitive advantage!" In addition to the Memorial Stadium, sports venues like University of Phoenix Stadium for the Arizona Cardinals, Texas A&M's Kyle Field, Japan's Yokohama Arena, and Home Depot Center in Los Angeles are also equipped with Meyer Sound systems, ensuring clear and intelligible sound for thousands of fans game after game.
