Vote for the Meyer Sound UPQ-1P Loudspeaker—2009 TEC Award Candidate

Meyer Sound's self-powered UPQ-1P wide coverage loudspeaker has been nominated for the Technical Excellence and Creativity (TEC) Award in the category of Sound Reinforcement Loudspeaker Technology. Register to vote on the MIX Foundation website. The UPQ-1P loudspeaker is a key highlight among the new technology introductions populating last year's professional audio scene. Its hallmark versatility has garnered praise from both sound professionals and the press, who named it the winner of the Musikmesse International Press Award (MIPA) and Live Design's Sound Product of the Year. System designers have found that the UPQ's uniform coverage, precise imaging, and mounting flexibility offer apparent benefits for creating high-performance sound systems in a diversity of applications, including Theater De Voorveghter, Theater De Naald, and Theater De Tamboer in the Netherlands, France's Le Glaz'art music venue, Las Vegas's Mirage Volcano spectacle, and California Academy of Sciences' Hearst Forum. "The multipurpose Hearst Forum at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco is both a 3D cinema and a special events auditorium," says Blair Parkin of UK-based consultancy Visual Acuity. "It can be used as one large presentation space or divided into two smaller rooms with a movable wall. With the UPQ performing double duty as left and right channels in a 7.1 cinema surround setup, and as rear delays to augment the main auditorium system, there is a highly flexible system for the different combinations of presentation material and room configurations, and it also keeps the number of speaker cabinets to a minimum. We're delighted with the results of this area within the world's largest LEED Plantinum rated green building." The TEC Awards honor the individuals, companies and technical innovations behind the sound of recordings, films, TV shows, and live performances. Winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held Saturday, October 10, at the 127th AES Convention in New York City. If you haven't had a chance to hear the UPQ, contact the Meyer Sound sales representative in your region to arrange a demo. The difference is in the hearing. August, 2009 |
