MX Beat 2009, one of the most popular alternative music festivals in Mexico and encompassing multiple stages across four cities, featured numerous regional and international artists, including Cat Power, Mystery Jets, Sebastian Tellier, and Danger, who performed to crowds in Guadalajara using Meyer Sound's MILO line array loudspeaker systems. Audio equipment support for the festival was provided by Mexico City-based CREA, a division of Grupo CIE. According to Production Manager Saul Rodriguez, Meyer Sound MILO was selected for its powerful performance and great sound, as well as its ability to perform under a wide range of unpredictable weather conditions. "We needed a system that could deliver high SPL for long hours, and maintain the same quality and performance regardless of atmospheric conditions," Rodriguez reports. "Temperatures in Guadalajara could fluctuate between zero and 37 degrees Celsius (32 – 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit). Meyer Sound gear was really the only choice for such demanding conditions." System design for the two Guadalajara stages was handled by Rodriguez and colleague Fernando Robredo, using Meyer Sound's MAPP Online Pro acoustical prediction program. The Open Stage was the larger of the two venues, and was outfitted with left and right hangs of 15 MILO line array loudspeakers and ten 700-HP subwoofers each. Three MSL-4 loudspeakers provided frontfill, along with two more pairs of MSL-4 loudspeakers for sidefills. Stage monitoring was handled by 16 M'elodie line array loudspeakers, along with six 650-P subwoofers, and two UPA-1P loudspeakers. At the Closed Stage, the main system comprised two arrays of nine MILO loudspeakers each, complemented by six 700-HP subwoofers per side. A pair of UPA-1P loudspeakers covered frontfill. Foldback for the performers was provided by 12 MJF-212A monitors, in addition to left and right sidefills of two MSL-4 loudspeakers and one 650-P subwoofer each. Each stage employed Galileo loudspeaker management system to handle system drive and processing. Pepe Martínez, David Marchant, and Bernardo Santillan handled FOH mixing duties; Alejandro Pichardo and Luis Baltasar were monitor engineers. Now in its fifth year, MX Beat 2009 was staged in Mexican cities including Puebla, Toluca, Monterrey, in addition to Guadalajara. June, 2009 |
