Since Meyer Sound began shipping the JM-1P arrayable loudspeaker in summer 2009, tight-packed arrays of these point-source systems have powered live sound environments around the world. System designers highlight its aesthetic benefits, scalable horizontal coverage, and QuickFly rigging as key features that streamline system integration. Venue representatives report a markedly improved listening experience, and Serbian singer Vlado Georgiev says: "JMs are probably the best speakers I have ever heard." Using Meyer Sound's patented REM ribbon emulation manifold technology, the JM-1P eliminates angle setting, as each cabinet adds precisely 20 degrees of coverage, with three JM-1P loudspeakers totaling a 60-degree horizontal coverage pattern. This feature provided a fitting solution for Experience Lagos, a massive worship event in Nigeria with sound reinforcement by GQ Acoustics. "The main venue at Experience is an open quadrangle about 170 meters across, with the stage on one long side, grandstands opposite, and three-story pavilions on the short sides," explains consultant engineer David "dB" Dennison. "The extreme width made it impossible to cover the far corners effectively with only the line arrays. Fortunately, the JM-1Ps were perfect for delays and fills because I could add 20 degrees of horizontal coverage by simply adding another box until I had exactly what I needed. That was priceless." Event sound providers benefit from the seamless setup of the JM-1P, including Crossroads Audio of Dallas, Texas and UK-based Capital Sound, who powered the British Music Embassy stage at SXSW 2010 in Austin, Texas. In Branson, Mo., Starlite Theatre's audio staff points to the smooth system upgrade process at the local landmark. "I have been working with the Starlite Theatre for eight years," says Director of Operations and Production Nate Simzek, who collaborated with installer Killian Digital. "It's almost scary how effortless the integration process of the JM-1P was. With no angle setting and the ease of QuickFly rigging, restoring our venue to world-class status was much faster and easier than I would ever imagine." For the audio retrofit at the 997-seat Cascade Theatre in Redding, Calif., preserving the historic venue's aesthetics was key, and the JM-1P was a natural solution. "One look at our gorgeous ceiling murals and you'll understand why we decided against hang points," says Jeff Darling, the venue's general manager. "Our donors paid a lot of money to restore that artwork. We didn't want to blemish or conceal it in any way." Groundstacked arrays of the JM-1P, provided by Relles Sound of Eugene, Ore., pleased the donors as well as other venue patrons. "For the comedian, the vocal clarity was far greater than we'd ever heard before in this room," says Darling. "And for the opera, the transparency of the system made it seem completely natural." Arts Centre Gold Coast in Australia chose the JM-1P for its extraordinary clarity. "Last night at about 10:30 we got to fire up the JM-1Ps and after a couple of tunes, added in the 700-HP subwoofers," says audio consultant Richard Muecke. "I can't use one word to describe it so here's two—'absolutely sensational!' The system is very musical and very smooth—just awesome." The JM-1P arrayable loudspeaker gives sound professionals a versatile live sound tool with unprecedented horizontal control and highly linear sound quality.
