Every summer, dance music fans from the Rhein- Ruhr region and as far as Belgium and the Netherlands pay pilgrimage to Germany's Blauer See open-air festival to meet their DJ heroes. This year, headliners Ricardo Villalobos and Luciano were joined by other renowned electronic and techno artists to stage a party like no other, through the precision power of a Meyer Sound JM-1P arrayable loudspeaker system. "The Meyer Sound system at Blauer See 2010 is in a league of its own," says Luciano. "The entire sound system is a dream to use with massive bass and clean mids to highs." Provided and operated by Overath, Germany-based sound and light equipment company, contour licht & audio partner Veranstaltungsservice GmbH, the sound system for Blauer See's main dance floor featured four hangs with four JM-1P arrayable loudspeakers and three 700-HP subwoofers each. The smaller dance floor was powered by four stacks of four MICA line array loudspeakers on top of three 600-HP subwoofers. Both systems were designed to aim at the dance floor to give partiers an immersive, bass-pounding experience. Monitoring for the DJs was provided by a UPQ-1P loudspeaker and a 600-HP subwoofer. "In my opinion, Meyer Sound systems are the best PAs in the world, I really love playing on them," adds Villalobos. According to Frank "Gecko" Kasper, contour licht & audio partner's MD and sound designer, Blauer See presented two challenges for the sound system design. "The first was to ensure a high SPL hour after hour," says Kasper. "The system also needs to reproduce a wide frequency range loudly and clearly with an intense bass—which is something very important to all DJs. The Meyer Sound systems exceeded our expectations on both levels."
