As many sound hire companies working in Belgium have learned, the Forest National Concert Hall in Brussels is a difficult venue for amplififed music. And, yet, two recent concerts there with Meyer sound systems have been great successes.
For the first concert, a performance by Jose Carreras, the UK company Sound Hire set up a system using Meyer MSL-10s. The system performed so well, that a local Belgium company, Audio & Lighting Conecpt (ALC) of Baasrode, Belgium decided to purchase a similaar system from Meyer Sound's Belgium dealer, Trans European Music. ALC's new system comprises six MSL-5s, twelve DS-2s, four MSL-3As, four MSL-2As, eight USM-1s, two MSW-2s, and eight 650-R2s.
For the first show with the new system, ALC returned to the Forest National Concert Hall. The program was Ravel's Bolero. ALC's sound engineers Gerlo Luc and Geernaert Rene designed the concert system, which included stereo clusters made up of three MSL-5s and six DS-2s. On each side, two USM-1s were installed as downfills, and two MSL-3As were installed to cover seats behind the main system. Gym Woods aligned the system using Trans European Music's SIM® System II.
"At first, the conductor didn't want any mics or speakers," says Stefaan Hessens of Trans European Music, "but after listening to the sound system at rehearsals he soon changed his mind. After the concert - which sold out - people came down the mix position to congratulate the sound team for the excellent quality of the sound."
ALC is now using their new Meyer system for a variety of shows in Belgium. Several critics reviewing the shows have commented on the sound system's superb quality.
