Casino Hits Jackpot with Autograph

Total Production - March 1999

Autograph Sales has recently installed sound reinforcement systems into the prestigious Casino du Liban in Beirut. Located in the Casino’s theatre and in the cabaret venue - Salles des Ambassadeurs - the new sound equipment is part of a complete refurbishment of the Casino, which had been extensively damaged during the Civil War. Acting as both the consultant and equipment supplier, Autograph Sales supervised the entire project in Beirut, collaborating with Lebanese architects Dar Al-Handasah and audio installation company Audiopro.

Pull Quote The UK company was faced with a unique brief. The main requirement was that the system should be similar to those installed on New York’s Broadway or London’s West End, and should be suitable for a range of applications, including fashion shows, beauty contests, musicals and rock concerts. Exact equipment specifications were left for Autograph Sales to devise, and using its extensive experience of theatre sound installations, the team designed a system that would cope with the varied use of the Casino, and the large dimensions of the venues.

Graham Paddon, Managing Director of Autograph Sales, commented on the project: “We first visited the Casino back in February 1996, which enabled us to take some precise measurements and produce detailed specifications of what was required for the sound systems. After another visit to the site in June 1997, Project Manager Greg Pink produced the working drawings, and we were able to calculate all the installation details. Overall, Greg spent 12 weeks in Beirut supervising the work, assisted at various times by other members of our team, culminating in the use of Meyer’s SIM System for the installation’s final configuration and fine-tuning.”

Name Here “Although we have a lot of experience with designing and installing sound systems in the theatres, due to the location, this project was a new, and particularly enjoyable experience, and we are glad it was a success for everyone involved.”

An extensive list of equipment was installed into the two locations, from a range of leading manufacturers. A total of 47 Meyer speakers were installed into the theatre and Salles des Ambassadeurs, including 10 UPA-1C main speakers, eight USM-1 monitors, and four MTS-4 stage sidefills. Crown 1200 and 2400 stereo amplifiers were installed in both venues, with a Soundcraft 40-channel K3 FOH desk and a SM12 monitor desk brought into the theatre.

Autograph Sales also supplied ATM Fly-Ware loudspeaker rigging, with additional installation equipment manufactured by EMO systems, König & Meyer, and Bryant Broadcast. Wireless microphones and in-ear monitoring systems were provided by Shure, and Clear-Com equipment was chosen to fulfill the communications requirements.
