On the evening of June 17, internationally renowned conductor Kurt Masur along with the New York Philharmonic will perform for a one-night concert gala at Saõ Paulo's Parque do Ibirapuera. The event, which is expected to draw an estimated 50,000-plus attendees, will infuse fans with Masur's high quality of playing and strong artistic spirit. To meet the demands of such a momentous occasion, Brazil's Loudness Sonorização selected a Meyer Sound system comprising 20 of the company's new M3D Line Array Systems. Also contributing to the evening's efforts, SIM Engineer Maurício Ramirez will work in conjunction with Loudness' audio staff to ensure the evening's success. Says Márcio Pilot, director of Loudness Sonorização, "We'll use two columns of 10 speakers left and right over the stage for the New York Philharmonic. We listened to the M3Ds at the NSCA show in Orlando. We could note that the system was high fidelity. We went behind the system and we could hear just the stage monitors and the instruments, which means that the directivity factor really works properly." Pilot added that Loudness' decision to choose Meyer Sound's new M3D Line Array systems stemmed from the fact that it was an easy-to-use line array system that was also entirely self-powered, eliminating the need for external racks and amplifiers. "With the M3D you can figure out the number you wish, in steps of one box at a time, until you reach a maximum of 18 [M3Ds] per column. The directivity control is also unique in the market. Imagine the artists playing on stage only hearing a minimum of the PA. They will enjoy a very comfortable sound on the stage." As Music Director for the New York Philharmonic since 1991, Mr. Masur has launched a host of successful initiatives, including the return to live, coast-to-coast radio broadcasts and the establishment of the Orchestra's own award-winning recording label, New York Philharmonic Special Editions. Mr. Masur began the New York Philharmonic's 2001 season with a tour of the United Kingdom. In February, he appeared as guest conductor with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, and in April and May he guest conducted the Orchestre National de France in Paris and the Rundfunk Sinfonie Orchester in Berlin. In November 2000, Mr. Masur conducted concerts with the Yomiuri Symphony Orchestra in Japan, and in January 2001, he returned to the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra for the first time since 1996. More recently, Mr. Masur led the opening night concert of the London Philharmonic Orchestra-with which he also undertook a major March/April 2001 tour as its Principal Conductor. Additional events scheduled by Loudness Sonorização using the Meyer Sound M3D Line Array Systems include Fiat's 25-year celebration in Brazil as well as a host of Jazz and Blues festivals and tours with international artists. |
