With high technology, interactivity, and the ultimate music and sound environment in mind, owners of the Knitting Factory set out last year to build a West-Coast counterpart to their flagship New York City location along Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame. Featured in the 12,000 square-foot Tinsel Town club is a 350-seat main stage and a jazz stage seating 75, both of which are equipped with self-powered loudspeaker systems from Meyer Sound.

On the main stage, an L-C-R system features four Meyer UPA-2Ps flown parallel down the center of the room, and a single MTS-4A flown on either side. With their 45° x 45° dispersion pattern, the UPA-2Ps provide excellent coverage to the central seating area, while the 70° x 60° pattern of the MTS-4As delivers smooth, even coverage to the side seating areas and low frequency reinforcement throughout. Four 100° x 40° UPA-1Ps additionally provide center fill at the rear of the room, while three 100° x 100° UPM-1Ps manage under-balcony chores.

The Main Stage features MTS-4As, UPM-1Ps, USW-1Ps, UM-1Ps and UPA-1Ps & 2Ps

Situated on the floor beneath the main stage are four USW-1P self-powered subwoofers. Complementing the whole package is a Meyer Sound stage monitoring system consisting of seven UM-1Ps and two USM-1Ps. While not nearly as spacious, the venue's jazz showcase, the Alterknit Lounge, is also well equiped to provide patrons with sound stage quality via Meyer CQ-1 self-powered loudspeaker systems flown on either side of its stage and two USW-1P subwoofers positioned beneath. Installed by Miami/Las Vegas-based Pro Sound, Inc., the systems were designed to be reliable and versatile performers to a point where the club could manage the needs of virtually any act.

Knitting Factory's Senior VP of Club Operations Ed Greer says they've been using Meyer Sound systems for five years at the NY club, so the decision to go with them again was an easy one: "People coming into the club and hearing their favorite artists always comment on how much they've enjoyed the sound quality, as do the performers themselves and their agents. We like to think that these systems are helping to pave the way to a new era of club experiences. Being at the forefront of the scene has always been what we've been known for. Having quality audio is just part of maintaining that reputation."
