Meyer Sound Introduces MTS-4A at AES, LA

Upgraded Four-Way Self-Powered Loudspeaker System Already In Use In Major New Venue

BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA (September 22, 2000) - New from Meyer Sound is the MTS-4A, a four-way self-powered loudspeaker system able to produce extremely high sound levels across the entire audio spectrum. The MTS-4A is designed to provide a single-cabinet, truly full-range solution in applications requiring powerful deep bass reproduction, often eliminating the need for separate subwoofers and associated electronics. The MTS-4A is suited to a variety of full-range music playback applications, including ground stacked and flown stereo reinforcement, stage side fill or drum monitoring, and mobile disco/DJ systems. One of the first installations of the new design is at the latest Knitting Factory club, at Hollywood, CA.

MTS-4A Significant features of the MTS-4A include new cone driver designs and a number of refinements to the internal processing electronics. The 18-inch, 15-inch and 12-inch drivers are from Meyer Sound's new MS-8xx Series, which incorporates design changes and new materials to increase mechanical robustness and performance. Also, the redesigned control card electronics allow the MS-818, MS-815 and MS-812 drivers to operate together over the critical 60Hz to 100Hz frequency band. Drive signals are kept fully in-phase for increased acoustic gain, resulting in more powerful bass and drum reproduction, higher system headroom and reduced stress on individual drivers.

Like its predecessor in the line, the MTS-4, the upgraded MTS-4A is a quad-amplified system with total peak amplifier output exceeding 2400W. The MTS-4A also offers built-in phase corrected processing electronics and Meyer Sound's exclusive TruPower™ limiting circuits. The three low- and mid-frequency drivers are placed in separate, vented chambers to lower distortion and boost system efficiency. High frequency reproduction is handled by a horn-coupled 4-inch MS-2010A compression driver, which extends response to 18kHz with flat phase response to 12kHz. Despite its very high output capability (140dB SPL peak at 1 meter) and extended bass response, the MTS-4A's cabinet is a modestly sized 17 cu. ft.
