System Description:

The sound systems at the War Memorial Opera House use a variety of Self-Powered and UltraSeries^TM products. Two vertical arrays consisting of 2 CQ-2’s stacked above a CQ-1 flank the stage and are supplemented by an under-balcony delay system consisting of 6 UPM-2’s controlled by 2 P-2 processors and using 5 CP-10 Complementary Phase Parametric Equalizers. Four UPA-2C’s controlled by 2 M-1A’s, and further optimized by an LD-1A Line Driver serve as an upper balcony system. The entire system was aligned using the SIM® System II Analyzer. Backstage, the sound effects system includes 1 MSL-6, 1 PSW-6, 2 MTS-4’s, 6 CQ-1’s, 2 UPA-1P’s and 5 HD-1’s. Two additional HD-1’s round out the state-of-the-art studio, which is used for pre-production, production and live mixing, all from one location above the Opera House stage.

The house system is used primarily as the “House/Announce” PA for playback during ballet or non-opera events. The improvement in sound quality over the previous system has afforded the use of the system as a supplement to the sound effects system (delayed to stage). Typically, the house system is operated at approximately half-power although it has been run at full power when reinforcing the organ.
