MEYER UNVEILS NEW
HM-1 SELF-POWERED
LOUDSPEAKER AT NSCA

Low Voltage Requirement Eliminates Conduits, Reduces Time and Money Expenditures for Contract Sound Installations

At this year's NSCA show in Charlotte, NC, Meyer Sound introduced the new HM-1 Loudspeaker, a self-powered product that simplifies installation and maximizes performance in contract sound applications.

"The HM-1 has no competition. It's the only self-powered loudspeaker with superior sound quality and the ability to run at 48 volts," explains Jonathan Deans, sound designer for Real Time Audio. "The SPL and sound quality are surprising for its size." Jonathan recently installed 130 HM-1's in the newly-built Rio Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"We knew we could save contractors time and money by developing a high-power speaker that meets the 48 volt building code limit. By eliminating conduits entirely from the installation process, the HM-1 succeeds in offering a versatile, cost-effective solution with the superior sound quality that people expect from Meyer Sound," explained John Meyer, president of Meyer Sound.

Self-Contained Design Simplifies Installation
The HM-1 is a compact, two-way system comprising a seven-inch graphite cone low frequency driver and a concentrically-mounted one-inch soft-dome high frequency driver with constant-directivity horn. Integral biamplifiers affording 300 watts total power output are built directly into the enclosure along with an active crossover, driver protection, and frequency and phase response alignment circuitry. The HM-1's self-powered design completely eliminates amplifier and signal processing racks, thus requiring less installation space and increased flexibility.

Co-Axial Pattern Ensures 100° Coverage
The system features flat frequency response from 40 Hz to 20 kHz (at -6 dB points) with symmetrical 100° coverage in both the horizontal and vertical axes, and a maximum output of 116 dB SPL. The magnetically shielded, vented wood enclosure measures 8.5" W x 11" H x 9.5" D, weighs 12 lbs. (5.5 kg) and is coated with a textured black or white finish. A variety of factory-installed mounting options is available.

Distributes Power and Signal Without Conduits
Specifically developed with a low voltage requirement, the HM-1 simplifies compliance with building codes and substantially reduces fire hazards. It accepts a simple, unipolar 48 volt DC power source (4A peak, 3A average) and a balanced signal input which may be supplied using twisted-pair wiring. Optional remote power supplies that accept AC mains inputs from 80 to 280 volts at 50/60 Hz in two switched ranges are available, as is a separate subwoofer with ten-inch cone driver that increases the system response at 40 Hz by 6 dB and is powered directly from the HM-1 low frequency amplifier output.

Ideally Suited for Broad Range of Contract Applications
Delivering optimally flat amplitude and phase response with extremely low distortion, the HM-1 is perfectly adapted for theatrical sound, multimedia playback, foreground/background music, distributed systems and portable sound reinforcement.
