Acoustical Prediction: MAPP Online Pro

MAPP Online Pro Quick Start

Here's how easy it is to use MAPP Online Pro.

Make a new MAPP Online Project

When a new MAPP Online Pro project is created, the first thing you see is the Prediction Plane (1). You can choose to use metric or imperial measurement units and set the plane’s dimensions as needed.

Define a loudspeaker system to insert

Choose one of the Loudspeaker System commands from the Insert menu and specify the array you wish to evaluate(2), including splay angles, center lines, and more. It’s just as easy to create systems with individual loudspeakers or point-source arrays instead of line arrays.

Click the Predict button

With your loudspeaker array in place, click the Predict button(3) to send the data over the Internet to the MAPP Online Pro server at Meyer Sound headquarters, where the prediction data will be calculated.

View the sound field coverage prediction

A few seconds later, your computer will produce a color graphic representation (4) showing the coverage given by your array. Select different frequencies and display resolutions to get a variety of views of the system’s performance. No matter what display resolution you select, MAPP Online Pro always uses high-resolution 1/48th octave band data for its calculations.

Place a virtual microphone in the sound field

Now insert a virtual microphone(5) into the sound field and click the Predict button again. Multiple microphones can be placed, each with a custom name, anywhere in the sound field.

View the response at the microphone position

MAPP Online Pro's Virtual SIM shows the frequency response at the selected virtual microphone’s location. Moving the microphone will cause the frequency response(6) to automatically update. In addition to frequency response, Virtual SIM can also show the band spectrum(7) and impulse response(8) at the microphone location.

Apply virtual Galileo Composite EQ

MAPP Online Pro’s virtual Galileo Composite EQ(9) helps you find an EQ curve that will optimize the system response.

Define characteristics of the venue

Define the characteristics of the venue in question by inserting architectural and multi-level visual aids (10). MAPP Online Pro also lets you individually activate each surface (walls, floor and ceilings) and define its composition (11). Quickly put together a rough definition for touring applications or create a detailed definition for installations. For the ultimate in venue definition, you can import an AutoCAD .dxf file.

Check rigging statistics

MAPP Online Pro provides crucial rigging information(12) at the bottom of any of the Insert Loudspeaker System dialogs.

Export the graphics for presentation

Once you have determined the best design for the loudspeaker system, exporting the graphic images(13) gives a powerful method for letting the client understand how the system will perform.

Note: This little demonstration does not even scratch the surface of what MAPP Online Pro can do for you. New features are being added all the time; see the Release Notes page for information on the latest version of MAPP Online Pro, and the User Guide for full usage instructions.
