GALILEO OPERATING SYSTEM MEMORY PARTITION AREAS 1 & 2

Galileo has two memory locations in it's operating system that store firmware. When upgrading firmware, the new file is loaded into the memory location not currently in use. This allows storage of two versions of Galileo firmware, and the ability to switch which version is in use, should a problem be encountered when upgrading firmware.

If you want to ensure that both memory locations contain the same version of firmware, simply perform the firmware upgrade process, then restart your Galileo, then perform a firmware upgrade again. After your second restart both memory locations will contain the same version of firmware.

You may access a specific memory location of the operating system by holding down on two buttons while powering on the Galileo. These two memory locations are named "Area 1" and "Area 2". On the Galileo 616 Front Panel you can identify the area in use. For the Galileo 408, the way to find out is to boot into a specific memory location of the operating system and look at the firmware column on the Galileos or Devices Tab in the Compass Control Software.

Identify the current flash drive area in use

If the lower right hand corner of the front panel screen shows a single pixel, then the unit is operating from Area 1. If the lower right hand corner of the front panel screen shows a two pixels side-by-side, then the unit is operating from Area 2.

From the front panel of the Galileo 616, go to the About window:

Galileo Map > System Settings > About

Galileo 616 Procedure:

Press and hold Select buttons 'A' and 'C' to boot into Operating System Memory Area 1
Press and hold Select buttons 'B' and 'D' to boot into Operating System Memory Area 2

Galileo 408 Procedure:

Press and hold Mute buttons 'A' and 'C' to boot into Operating System Memory Area 1
Press and hold Mute buttons 'B' and 'D' to boot into Operating System Memory Area 2

You must hold the buttons until the power LED is enabled (changes from amber to green).

The Galileo 616 front panel will show a one or two pixels side by side in the lower right-hand corner of the "About" screen.
