Compass: Control Software

Introduction

With all the features and power offered by Galileo and CAL hardware, giving the user a comprehensive, intuitive way to control them is paramount. Meyer Sound’s Compass software fulfills this requirement. Running under either the Macintosh or Windows operating system, Compass provides a graphical user interface that is the result of years of experience optimizing complex systems.

Compass for Galileo 616

Compass’ Galileo Map tabs let users see signal flow at a glance. The unique filter display shows and allows direct editing of the composite response created by the Parametric and TruShaping filters. Filter parameters can be edited graphically or by direct text or numeric entry. Seeing the frequency shaping curve is not the full story, however, so Compass’ filter display also shows the composite phase response.

Compass for Galileo Callisto 616

The Compass control software provides comprehensive control of the Galileo Callisto 616 from an intuitive graphical user interface. The software enables easy access to all features and even provides control of multiple units. Compass runs on a Mac or Windows-based computer. 

The Callisto Map tab displays a summary overview of all Callisto channels complete with signal flow. Inputs and outputs can be labeled and conveniently grouped for gang edits. 

The Input Processing and Output Processing tabs provide access to all DSP settings. Equalization parameters can be easily edited with numeric entry or by graphically dragging frequency bands. Multiple layers of equalization can be viewed for a composite graphic plot of equalization curves.

Compass for CAL

The Compass control software provides comprehensive control of CAL through a graphical user interface. The software enables easy access to all CAL features and even provides control of multiple units. Compass runs on a Mac or Windows®-based computer. 

With Compass, you can set the active input and override input; configure vertical beam coverage, beam steering, and beam splits; assign processing to beams, including gain, delay, and parametric EQ; edit, store, recall, and organize CAL presets; test logic I/O, including input mute, input override, fault, contact, and preset selection; and monitor loudspeaker system status and performance data from the RMS tab.

The Beam Control tab displays CAL’s vertical beam coverage (spread) and vertical steering, both of which can be altered by entering angle values or by dragging in the beam view area. Split beams can also be configured on the Beam Control tab (CAL 64 and CAL 96 only)

Compass and RMServer

Compass for RMS is comprised of RMServer compact hardware and RMS modules in the loudspeakers, it is simple to configure and easy to use.  Compass RMS helps you get the best out of your sound systems by reporting the exact status of every loudspeaker and how much power is being applied, at any time. With Compass as the control software for Compass RMS systems, monitoring is an element of a fully integrated software platform for deploying and optimizing sound reinforcement systems over Ethernet.

Compass RMS is backwards-compatible with existing RMS-equipped Meyer Sound loudspeakers, giving new capabilities to systems that are already in the field.  Upgrading your existing inventory to Compass RMS is as simple as downloading the free Compass software, purchasing the appropriate number of RMServers, and performing a simple, one-time procedure on each loudspeaker to set and store its identity. For new users making your first investments into the quality and reliability of Meyer Sound systems, Compass RMS will protect your investment by promoting the longest useful life of your Meyer Sound loudspeakers.
